CUPPING THERAPY
At RECOVR Acupuncture & Sports Rehab, we offer cupping therapy as part of our integrated approach to pain relief, muscle recovery, and athletic performance. Whether you're an athlete, weekend warrior, or dealing with chronic tension, cupping is a powerful tool to help your body heal faster and move better.
-
Cupping therapy is a hands-on technique that uses suction to lift the skin and underlying tissues. This suction helps:
- Increase blood circulation
- Loosen tight muscles and fascia
- Reduce inflammation and stagnation
- Promote your body’s natural detoxification and healingAt RECOVR, we use modern silicone, plastic, and glass cups to create either static or gliding suction over targeted areas. This therapy is often integrated into acupuncture or soft tissue treatments to enhance results.
You’ve probably seen cupping marks on professional athletes like Michael Phelps—those round discolorations are from increased blood flow and typically fade within a few days.
-
Cupping is highly effective for:
- Muscle tightness and knots
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Back pain and stiffness
- Sports recovery and DOMS (delayed-onset muscle soreness)
- Poor circulation or cold limbs
- Stress and tension-related symptoms -
Cupping can be used as a standalone therapy or added to your acupuncture or dry needling session.
- Static cupping: Cups stay in place for 5–15 minutes
- Gliding cupping: Performed for 5–10 minutes using massage oil
- Full cupping sessions typically last 15–30 minutes
- Integrated into longer treatment sessions that may last 30–45 minutesCupping may leave temporary circular marks or redness that indicate improved blood flow and tissue response. These are not bruises and generally fade in 3–14 days.
